Overview:
Abstract: Water is frequently used in restauration practice. In aqueous cleaning or in consolidation will be used specific water. Natural frequency water will be produce from groundwater and surface water. This water has mineral nutrients, which have an postiv or negative effect on original material substanz.
Purified water is deionized and distilled water without mineral nutrients. Distilled water is also amicrobic. Deionized water will be favoured in restauration practice, because this water is in production mostly cheaper. Amicrobic, distilled water will be used in combination with materials and their special conditions of growth from microorganism. The dumping with bacteria and fungi of tap water will prevent.

Water is polar with a highly surface tension; therefore water dissolve only polar dirt. The cleaning proberties of water can be enhanced by the addition of surfactant, saliva, acids and bases, puffer and complexing agents. After application from chemical modified water the operator have to clean the original substance with purified water. Residues are able to damage the surfaces of original material. An aqueous cleaning with addition or without addition must be exactly think through; prior tests must not miss. Following examples shall explain some problems. Aqueous cleaning systems ingress of porous substance as stone, wood or textile and cause therefore a swelling of original material. Also specific varnishes react on substantial change from the pH-value with asset erosion. The metallic pigments in combination with complexing agents will complex with aqueous medium.

The application of qualified water must be especially deliberated and assayed. Damaging consequences can be avoided.
