| Abstract: | The thesis describes fundamental principles with regard to papyrus like production, chemical constitution, condition of conservation, quality characteristics, material properties and deteriation of the material. Furthermore it has been stated which conservational aspects have to be considered to ensure preservation of the material. This thesis addresses especially to all institutions which are to preserve objects of papyrus and it is meant to be a guideline for correct treatment. It discusses aspects which are connected to transport, storage, environment and exhibition as well as instructions and recommendations. In addition it presents two different kinds of mounting for papyri and discusses their pros and cons. This thesis includes a handout which lists in brief the fundamental principles. Information is given verbally and visually enaibling practical and unproblematic appliance. |
