Abstract: This work deals with the earliest photographic process, the Daguerreotype. In addition to general history information it provides an insight into the image carrier structure, the processes of image formation, the identification and the practice of Daguerreotypy. After that the work presents different kinds of image deterioration and the widely known and latest conservation methods, as well as the work on a conservation project. The last chapter deals with the archiving and presentation of Daguerreotypes.
