Johanna Fuchs: Study of the application of volatile binding medium as transportation safeguard for a Baroque Epitaph from the Goslar Museum Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: In this thesis a concept for a temporary transportation safeguard is developed to secure an extremely flaking paint layer of a Baroque Epitaph from the Goslarer Museum.
To secure the paint layer with a facing is impossible. Instead the volatile binding medium cyclododecan is suggested.
To develop an appropriate form of application, tests are performed on specimens with different diluted solutions and various spray applicators.
As the result of the study two different methods of application are recommended:
A preconsolidation of the paint layer can be achieved by dropping saturated solution of cyclododecan using a pipette. A slightly thicker covering coat is obtained by spraying.
Further more recommendations for the transport are given.
