Overview:

Abstract: The thesis is centered on the examination of a cuirass (V00165) and a shark tooth weapon (V00185). Both objects originate from Kiribati, an insular state in southeastern Micronesia which belongs to Oceania. The artefacts were made available for examination thanks to the Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum Hildesheim.
The thesis tends to achieve three objectives: First, it aims at forwarding both general and specific information on the materials the objects are made of. This was done by extensive literature research and profound investigation carried out by the author herself. Secondly, the substance of the objects is defined accurately. The consolidated findings provide the basis for delineating an adequate concept which aims at preservation of the objects and their restoration respectively. Last not least both objects will be shown in an exhibition at the museum in October 2008, so that it also proved to be neccessary to develop a concept for the exhibition.
