Christoph Breidt: The large fountain complex at the Geymüller Schlössel: making natural stone in fountains water-repellent Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The large fountain in the park area of the Geymüllerschlössel belongs to the Sobek-collection which is part of the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna. The fountain dates back to the end of the 19th century. One of the most important aspects of this study is to develop a conservation concept and research the so far neglected history of the fountain. Scientific examination of different colourless hydrophobic solvents on natural stone samples completes the study, which focused on the consideration of fountain-specific condition of continual wetness. These results were applied in the extensive conservation, which included dismantling and rebuilding the fountain, as well as the development of a preservation concept.
