Abstract: The present work deals with a group of 31 burial mask of the roman period that currently reside at the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt. Although little is known about their origins, it is widely excepted that they were excavated by unknown individuals from the necropolis of Hermopolis in Egypt. By dividing the masks into three groups, it was possible to perform a systematic and comprehensive investigation of the techniques involved in the formation of these masks. These analysis cover the materials used in making the mask. Primary of which is Gypsum as well, as technical analysis of substances involved in the creation of color with regard to these masks
