Christine Korb: "Simple and Quiet Painting" - Restauratorische Überlegungen zur Verbindung gebrochener Kunststoffpflanzen aus Polyethylen in einem Werk von Martial Raysse Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This master thesis deals with the possibility to rejoin fragments of plastic flowers made of polyethylene. The difficulty of restoration results from the material’s chemical structure, as the material is to be resistent to the glues commently used in the praxis of restoring objects. The plastic flowers are parts of the art work Simple and Quiet Painting (1965) by the french artist Martial Raysse.
The thesis sets focus on a closer examination of the material polyethylene and its properties as well as on the investigation of appropriate joining methods for the plastic. Potential techniques will be tested in regard to their stability and their ethical suitability. Based on the results of the examination the selected techniques will be tested with a dummy for their applicability.
