Overview:

Abstract: The only in good condition preserved furnishings of the Switzerland national exhibition from 1914 in Bern suffered from a flood damage in 2005.
A semicircular display cabinet is the example for examination of the general valid materials and working techniques. The documentation of the condition shows and explains the dimensions of the damage after the flood into the depot. The display cabinet has been divided into lots of separate parts. The original curved parts of wood have gone out of shape. It is not possible to fit them together. The reshaping will be possible by tested usage of steam.
The second important damage is the dark discoloration of the lower half of the furniture. It seemed quite difficult to find methods for returning the original colours.
The practical work demonstrates the enourmous expenditure to restorate the complete furnishings.
