Abstract: surface changes not always present harm to the material of the object or to human health. This was investigated on objects displayed in museums. The paper concentrates on the white-and-blue blooming, which grew on the waxed surfaces of the objects. Identified as a sodium carbonate, it may be caused by a cleaning agent or a care product. Through simulation attempts and surface cleaning the causes for the coverings were investigated. For all objects received a precautionary vermin control measure in a controlled climate chamber, this method was included in the investigation and reconstruction of the coating.
