Sima Massah: Corrosion damage on reinforced artificial stone figures – A concept for the preservation of a figure on the outer wall of the former Koch Ironmongers in Dessau Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The figure of Hermes on the facade of the former Koch Ironmongers in Dessau (1898-1908) was made out of reinforced artificial stone using a stamping technique. The appearance of the piece is characterised by a substantial loss of material. The damage originates from the corrosion of the rebar following the carbonation of the portland cement bound mortar. The usual methods of corrosion prevention only partially comply with the requirements for the care of listed objects and their original materials. Therefore there are various methods of preservation possible.
