| Abstract: |
The former "GDR state council" residence was inaugurated in 1964. Integrated in its façade is the IV-portal of the "elector-castle", which stood in the same square before being demolished. From this portal Karl Liebknecht declared a socialistic state in 1918. The standard of building was of the highest of its time and the design, a unique example of its era. The garden was executed with the same quality and elegance. In 1999-2001 the house was used as an interim seat of the German chancellery. As of 2006 it houses the ESMT- School. The fountain was neglected through the years and has deteriorated due to several damage mechanisms. In this diploma the situation of the fountain is examined and guidelines for its restoration are discussed.
