Overview:

Abstract: In this thesis seven different commercial mortars for the repair of weathered surfaces of historical stone monuments have been analysed in the laboratory as well as on site, in regard of their workability and applicability for the restoration and consolidation of deteriorated Drachenfels-Trachyt at Cologne Cathedral. Additionally fours kinds of tetraethoxysilane and six kinds of tetraethoxysilane with added acrylic resin have been analysed for their consolidation effect on the areas to be reconstraeted. The author comes to the conclusion that an acrylic resin added hydraulic lime mortar and acrylic resin mortar are most suitable for the restoration of Drachenfels-Trachyt, whereas the Funcosil Steinfestiger OH and the acrylic added TES 28 are the most appropriate materials for the consolidation.
