Carolin Hornig: Recovery of fragile grave textiles Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The safe recovery of fragile grave textiles, in particular, burials with garment remains from sarcophagi, requires a highly skilled conservator. Different aspects of the conservation of burials are listed in the introduction of this thesis, as well as known recovery methods. Consolidation mediums, e.g. acrylic resin, polyvinyl acetate or polyethylene glycol, are commonly used to stabilize textile grave finds. These materials, however, pose problems for continued study of said textiles. Alternatively, one can use volatile adhesive agents such as cyclododecane. Its use for temporary consolidation was tested and examined with exemplar and original grave textiles. Eventually, a method for safe recovery was developed for practical use and provides an informative basis from which to build upon.
