Sabine Kißler: Sythetic leather in the fashion A study from the view of a restorer Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Taking a synthetic leather jacket with efflorescences of fatty acid stemming from the sixties as its starting-point, the article at hand is engaged in the study of the material, structure and fabrication of synthetic leather. The possible damages to synthetic leather with a plastic coating of alkyd resin, cellulose nitrate, polyvinyl chloride or polyurethane will be analysed along with the causes of these damages. The application of simple methods of recognising synthetic materials with a view to analysing synthetic leather material will also be examined. The article will propose methods of conservation based on a review of the literature and practical experiences in restoration. The final segment of this paper will use the synthetic leather jacket as an example, presenting a plan for restoration and conservation.
