Overview:

Abstract: The late gothic sculpture of Madonna originally from Oesede monastery, in the LWL-Landesmuseum Münster is special because it combines polychromy with gilt copper mounting. The emphasis of this study is to analyse and to explore this phenomenom. The chronology of the development and the possible cooperation between the various craftsmen, for example: carver, painter and goldsmith, are the main aspekts of the technical research. The original togetherness of figur and socle is also arguable. The technical research is focus on the wooden grider, the polychromy and the metall mounting. On the basis of comparisons to other metall mounted sculptures it is possible to infer the provenance of the mounting and the Madonna sculpture to Friar Johann von Langen.
