Overview:

Abstract: This combined writing and dressing table is an example of the contemporary furniture of the late 18th Century in Germany. It shows parallels to the creative and constructional features of Hoffmann`s manufacturing work.
This thesis describes art-historical aspects, the history of the object and its restoration history. Moreover, it establishes a link between the results of the technological examinations (on how the object was manufactured) and contemporary documents. Furthermore, this work develops a detailed concept for the restoration of the combined writing and dressing table. The core of the concept comprises the conservation of the tabletop which was destroyed by external influences. The thesis describes experiments by the author to integrate blind varnish areas.
