Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This thesis investigates the consolidation of a heavily damaged procession flag a typical piece from the ‘Rheinische Historismus‘ during the beginning of the 20th Century. Due to the silk flags severe damage an additional consolidation treatment is necessary. Relevant findings based on research and case studies are the starting point for further tests with Klucel® E, Kollotex® 1250, Methocel® A4C and isinglass as consolidation agents. Recorded test results are contradictory because of unfortunate climatic fluctuations due to adverse weather conditions. Regarding further adhesive treatments, tests with pongé-silk and Lascaux® 360 HV as well Lascaux® 498 HV are performed. Based on test results a suitable consolidation and conservation method will be discussed.
