Overview:

Abstract: The painting „Ruth und Naemi“(1831) from Julius Hübner got lost in the second world war and found its way back to the Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlin in summer 2005. As a consequence of a rolled up storage and the influence of moisture, different damages are exposed in the paint support, the paint layers and the varnish. The main damage are big losses of the twill-canvas on the left side of the painting, resulting a fragile structure. In addition deformations of the paint support, flaking paint and blooming of the varnish occured. The thesis develops a concept for the structural conservation. The focal point is the completion of the twill woven canvas with hand-woven inlays.
