Overview:

Abstract: A representative pendule, from 1720-1750, with Boulle Marguetry is the IS Bf3. It can be found in the monastery of Isernhagen, Germany, and shows typical signs of ageing, damages and historical revisions. Those are described in detail in the object analysis of the present case study.
Beside the inventory control of the pendule in order to create a concept, different academic analyses were conducted. There for example a layer structure of the marguetry could be demonstrated and a composition of the pigment layer was noticed.
Additional studies focused on the protein source in the binding material and the alloy used.
The very extensive technological analysis is the basis for an object-oriented concept for the conservation and restoration of the pendule. Recommended materials were tested in respect of its suitability. To do a valuable comparison, existing documentations for restoration and other studies were used.
In order to test and adjust the developed concept, a test at the upper part of the pendule was made.
