Abstract: Caused by a fire in the Duchess Anna Amalia Library in Weimar on 2nd September 2004 among other items 2.200 fabric book bindings from the 19th and 20th centuries were damaged either by fire or water due to the firefighting action or mechanical stress during rescue operation.
For several years, the stock has been gradually restored to newly developed methods. In an exhibition showing the status, the incurred losses and the restoration steps will be presented to the public. In this thesis, the restoration steps are described by examples. Subsequently, a concept will be developed for the presentation of these restoration measures in a showcase. In this showcase, the research project which was conducted prior to the restoration measures will be presented, too.
