Sebastian Köhler: White Monochromes by Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein and Günther Uecker – Three Case Studies regarding their Conservation Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The 1950s and 1960s saw the creation of a large number of white monochrome artworks. Some fifty years later, these objects are frequently in need of conservation. Taking three examples by Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein and Günther Uecker respectively, which are all in the collection at the Kunstmuseen Krefeld, this text illuminates the specific problems faced by the conservator and presents ways of arriving at solutions for tackling these works. Central here is the question of how aesthetic considerations and the material authenticity of the work can both be guaranteed. In addition, the historical context and the strategies for conserving white art objects from 1960 to the present day are examined.
