Abstract: This Master-Thesis focusses on the restoration, conservation and exhibition of mainly waxed paper negatives housed in the photographic collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Frist of all, this historic objects made by William Henry Fox Talbot, Charles Nègre and anonymous photographers around the 1850s are instructed. The restoration chapter discusses options to treat mechanical damages (tears, wax creases, losses) of waxed paper negatives with selected treatments applied to one object. Light-aging-tests control the resistance against LED-light to exhibit the negatives in transmitted light. The constructed mounting-system protects the object during handling and offers the display in transmitted light. Recommendations for conservation complete the thesis.
