Abstract: The oldest known wallpainting of the federal state of Brandenburg is in a
very poor condition.The medieval painting underwent the drastic operation of transfer
to a movable support. After the mapping of the damages, the investigation of
materials used in the transfer operation and the testing of several conservation
treatments, some recommedations for dealing with the aged restoration materials are
given. One problem this paper deals with concerns removing residual animal glue, as
well as alkyd resin.
