Abstract: The bachelor thesis at hand deals with the DIN standards for protective packaging. The background to the crucial DIN EN ISO 9706 and DIN ISO 16245 are presented, their contents argued and their implication in conservation practice discussed. Furthermore, the significance of protective packaging in conservation and restoration will be discussed. The requirements on protective packaging in terms of conservation will be developed from literature and the content of the standards will be compared. It will be explained which requirements on standards in terms of conservation were seized and which were omitted respectively. The significance of the results will be discussed and further research will be presented.
