Sheyda Nikjou: The “Pretschlaipfer Triptych” of the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere Examination and conservation of the weekday sides Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The Pretschlaipfer Triptych, a three-panel late Gothic altarpiece held by Austria’s Belvedere gallery, is attributed to the Master of Grossgmain’s workshop. Originating from the Salzburg region, the triptych is dated around 1480. The side panels painted both front and rear appear extremely heterogeneous. While the paintings on the inner Sunday sides have been restored several times, the outer weekday sides are in poor condition, with only fragments left in the upper areas. Based on technical and material scientific analysis and a condition survey, a concept is developed for conserving the two weekday sides. The focus here lay on cleaning surface. Preserving the damaged panels and improving their appearance will enable the presentation of the weekday sides within an exhibition.
