Overview:

Abstract: The polychrome wooden “Christ at the Mount of Olives“-Ensemble, including an almost life-size figure of Christ, is dated around 1500 and is presently located in the Klosterneuburg monastery museum, Lower Austria. Due to inadequate climatic conditions, previous restoration interventions and significant accretions the object is severely endangered and aesthetically affected.
In the context of this diploma thesis relevant aspects of art history are investigated. Based on radiation diagnostics and scientific investigations a detailed examination and condition analyses of the ensemble is carried out. On this basis, a concept for conservation and restoration is developed and put into practice on one of the sculptures.
