Two large-size, three-part folding screens from 1847, were recently discovered in an attic. Their front side is covered with a precious chinese silk embroidery from the late 18th century, depicting the motif „One Hundred Boys“. Intensive research enable the historical classification of the hitherto unknown objects. Based on careful investigation, the provenance of the embroidery can be clarified and new knowledge concerning chinese embroidery materials is established. The cleaning of a heavily-soiled, water-sensitive embroidered web on one panel and the consolidation of the damaged textiles is carried out without detaching the webs from the wooden corpus. For this purpose traditional techniques of textile conservation are adapted. An additional challenge is the treatment of the degraded textile hinges of the panels.
