Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The partial cradle attached 1940 to this late Gothic altar panel depicting St. Barbara resulted in new cracks on the paint layer. It therefore had to be removed. Preliminary scientific examinations provided information about the damage and the condition of the paint remnants below the cradle. Practical work focused on the detachment of this construction and the difficult removal of residual glue from the original tempera paint film. Further treatment included the consolidation of the paint layers. Surface cleaning and varnish removal helped to improve the quality of the whole picture. Retouching of the most disturbing losses was made with water-based pigments.
