Abstract: The thesis describes the technological research of a "Johannesschüssel" from 1520. It is an medieval sculpture and shows the head of John the Baptist on a plate. The content of this work is the examination of the construction, the wooden carrier material and the polychromic coulours, which belong to several periods. Therefore were stereomicroscopes in use and the object was scientifically examinded with X-ray, UV, infrared reflectography, transversely cut analysis and X-ray fluorescence analysis.
There are other objects with the same genus, which are integrated for a comparation. The whole work took place at the "Bayerisches Nationalmuseum" in Munich, where the object belongs to.
