Nadine Müller: Cellulose ethers for the gluing of wood panels - looking for an alternative for Tylose MH 1000 Back

Overview:

Abstract: This thesis examines the suitability of cellulose ethers as an adhesive for the gluing of wood panels. Aim is to find an alternative product to the frequently used Tylose MH 1000, which may have better properties. For this purpose, three test series are executed to examine nine alternative cellulose ether products with varying degrees of viscosity. The test series include the flexural strength of the adhesive bonds, the microbial resistance of the cellulose ethers and their aging resistance. The methylcelluloses can achieve comparatively higher bonding strength than the methylhydroxyethylcellulose Tylose MH 1000. In addition, the methylcelluloses appear to be more resistant to the mold fungus Aspergillus glaucus. After accelerated aging, only Tylose MH 1000 showed crack formation in the adhesive film.
