Overview:

Abstract: Housed in a former turret of world war II, the depots of the MAK hold the largest
museum bound collection of oven tiles and tile-stoves worldwide. In this thesis the
collection’s history and historical presentation at the museum are examined 170 tiles are
surveyed, cleaned and conservation measures are taken as necessary. A concept for a
contemporary storage solution for the entire collection as well as the presentation in form
of a new display depot is elaborated. Measures to optimise the storage space and the
climatic conditions are implemented and materials for storage and display of the ceramic
tiles are recommended. The implemented concept gives suggestions for future
orientations with comparable collections.
