Overview:

Abstract: The polyptych of Saint Vincent Ferrer was created around 1480 in Modena by the workshop Degli Erri. Today, its fourteen panels are kept in collections in Vienna, Modena and Oxford. The thesis focusses on the art historical investigation of the twelve panels belonging to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Based on scientific examination and instrumental diagnosis, a conservation concept for one panel is drawn up. Its condition is compromised by prior conservation measures. The emphasis of the practical work lies on the stabilization of the wooden support through the removal of the cradle and the repair of the cracks as well as on the reduction of the multilayered varnish and overpaintings.
