Abstract: This thesis deals with the examination of two leather objects from the Völkerkundemuseum in Vienna with paintings of two Indians and the restauration of one object. The main focus of the restauration was set on leather inlays and the development of new mounting and form of display. For choosing the right adhesive for the leather inlays, tests were made with different adhesives.
The priority area was the examination of adhesive strength. In addition other criteria such as adhesive application, film formation, flexibility decrease and discoloration of leather after the application of adhesives and the penetration capability were examined. Moreover there is a summery given of the leather making process and the processes of leather degradation.
