Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum owns a collection of 43 ancient Egyptian animal mummies. In the past
these objects haven’t been systematically document-ted or treated by a conservator. The aim of this paper
is the creation of a condition report of the mummies and the development of a conservation concept. All
information available about the objects was gathered in data sheets especially designed for the collection.
Furthermore all types of damage were recorded via graphic documentation and evaluated. After that a
suitable support construction for storage, transport and x-raying was developed and exemplary carried out
on a selection of animal mum-mies. In the end some recommendations for storage and packaging
improvement were given.
