Overview:

Abstract: The conservation of the five-panel screenprint "Wallpaper with Blue Floor Interior" 61/300 (1992) by Roy
Lichtenstein (1923-1997), from the collection of the Henkel AG & Co. KGaA was challenging because of its
large-scale and installation in the building and therefore difficult to treat. The multi-coloured and multi-part
screenprint showed significant mechanical damage on the printed layer and the paper support, as well as
microbiological deterioration as a result of being mounted in the stairwell. The main focus of this study was
the development of a conservation concept considering the restoration problems of screenprints on paper,
as well as the transferability of the investigations for large-scaled paper objects in general. Finally,
consideration is given to the new installation and future preventive conservation.
