Overview:

Abstract: The canvas painting „Friedrich August I. Der Gerechte, König von Sachsen (1750- 1827) property of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar ist the companion of an pendant painting, wich was also examined. An interesting parallel between both paintings consists in the egg- white varnish. The most obvious damage of the king`s portrait was the extensive deformations of the canvas and the paint layers, which had been caused by impact of strong heat. The treatment of deformations demanded several treatments on the heat table.
