Overview:

Abstract: The diploma thesis deals with the canvas painting „Kaiser Friedrich der Andere verleiht dem Deutschen Orden Wappeninsignien“ by an unkown artist from the 17th / 18th Century.
The practical part comprised the examination and documentation of art technology and the condition of the painting, a concept and the implemented measures.
The main focus of the treatment consists in the conservation of the support with a pavement-type structure.
The theoretical work discusses the opportunities to preserve stretcher systems, as a basis for consideration for the stabilization of the original stretcher from the grisaille painting.
