Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The thesis gives an introduction to plasma treatment as a method of cleaning silver surfaces attached to silk fabrics. The first section includes a general presentation of the plasma method and its historical development for conservation, a classification of historical silver weavings and silver embroideries, as well as a comprehensive description of the characteristics and typical damage to silver and silk. The second section documents the plasma treatment of artificially aged silk fabrics combined with silver and of naturally aged fabrics. According to the results, no significant changes in the silk fabrics could be observed through plasma treatment. Beyond that, the corroded silver material was cleaned satisfactorily.
