Overview:

Abstract: The thesis deals with the examination of a portrait of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. of Prussia. It is dated around 1840 and was twice reduced in size by folding, resulting in severe damages. Additionally the painting suffered from water damage and pierces through the support. This condition led to the conservation including it´s documentation. The theoretical part is based on the case study of format change of easel paintings on textile support.
