Abstract: This diploma thesis deals with the small tempera painting “Friedrich Herzog zu Braunschweig-Lüneburg”, of the 17th century, owned by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. The painting is part of a series of six paintings which depict the duke’s brothers. The conservation treatment includes the closing of branched tears and of losses of canvas with fibrous pulp (a mixture of fibres and binding medium) and inlays. Furthermore, the technical and art historical context of the series was investigated.
