Abstract: The aim of this bachelor thesis is to develop a matrix with a classification of artifacts. It will be suggested how to deal with digitalization of films with photochemical and digital artifacts, concerning ethical for restorers. For this purpose an analyzing discourse between technology and perception is carried out around the term "artifact". Principles of film preservation, especially reproduction and reconstruction, are worked out in individual chapters for photochemical and digital domains. It will be explained how artifacts are (re) produced or (re) constructed. The connection between materiality, digitization and the visual perception of artifacts is demonstrated by using microscopic examinations and will be adopted to the matrix.
