Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The Mühlviertler Schlossmuseum Freistadt houses 99 targets, mostly from the 18th and 19th century.
Before starting with the diploma thesis an assessment of the condition of the targets and a recommended measurements cataloging were made, which provided the basis for the conservation concept.
Part of the work deals with the historical background and technological aspects of the targets.
Based on scientific investigations, casein was identified as a binding medium.
The main part of the thesis deals with the evaluation of a consolidation medium for this specific matt-finished and poudery surface. After testing several consolidation materials, a combination of surgeons glue and funori achieved the best results. In addition other typical conservation problems of the targets’ collection were handled.
