Annett Kretschmer: Limewater consolidation of historical lime plasters. Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Today, lime water is one of the most disputed materials to preserve mural paintings. In the following work, the conservation with limewater was examined in test series on plaster-specimen and two historical plasters, using for example the method of an accelerated carbonization. Applying scientific techniques, the physical and mechanical parameters of the plasters were investigated before and after the conservation. The stability of the plaster was estimated by its properties in the case of water infiltration and vapor diffusion. Additionally, the distribution of pore sizes, the bending strength, the speed of ultrasonic sound, the dynamic elasticity and abrasion resistance of the plaster were characterized. Also were examinded the presents of the calcite crystalls by the secundär electron mikroskopy (SEM) and the binding effekts by the polarisation mikroskopy. The work determines the necessary parameter and preconditions for the conservation process of the plaster.
