Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

The fragment of an Egyptian coffin lid.
Abstract: The fragment of an Egyptian coffin lid is examined with regard to the construction, the paint layers and the condition.
Materials such as the binding media (gum), pigments (Egyptian blue, ochres and calcium carbonate) and the wood species (Ficus sycomorus L.) are identified.
The conservation focuses on the consolidation of flaking and powdering paint as well as on a permanent supporting mount for storage and display.
Preliminary tests showed Klucel H dissolved in ethanol to be the material of choice for the consolidation.
