Andjelka Dropulja: Mass product galvanoplastic – The restauration of a figure of towns‘ cemetery Kaufbeuren Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The dissertation entitled „Mass Product Galvanoplastic“ deals with the problem of restoring naturally weathered galvanoplastically manufactured figures. On the example of a figure from a cemetery in Kaufbeuren a preservation concept was developed which permits the repositioning of the figure at its original lacation while complying with the conservation rules requiring as much of the original substance to be retained as possible. This meant that an alternative had to be found to removal of the entire core mass, which is the method often applied.
In this case the core mass was left inside the figure. In order to slow down the corrosion-related expansion of the iron reinforcement rods inside the figure, the core mass was treated with microcrystalline wax as a hydrophobing agent. With this reversible measure the aim is to retard the corrosion-related expansion of the iron reinforcement rods inside the figure which caused the destruction process.
