Marlene Sprenger: Painted Wrought Iron from Tyrol: The sacrament housing from the pilgrimage church of St. Oswald in Seefeld (1578-80) Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Painted wrought iron presents complex conservation problems, particularly in the selection of suitable mechanical derusting methods. For the first time, these are developed and discussed historically and chronologically. Using the concrete example of a sacrament housing [1578-1580] from St. Oswald in Tirol, a combined approach of cleaning and derusting is applied. A further point of emphasis is the discussion of the integration of losses on painted surfaces on three-dimensional objects. An interactive animated film allows one to experience the object in its original architectural context.
