Christine Nehrkorn-Stege: Conservation Treatment‘s to Cradled Panel Paintings Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The framed panel painting showing the Christi descent from the cross was significantly distorted due to an earlier parquetry and showed extensive paint coat loosening and losses. The appearance of the picture was severely spoiled due to clouding of the boiled oil coat and extensive added paint coats. The design of the accompanying decorative frame had been changed. Conservation and restoration work included the consolidation of the paint coats, the relief of the parquetry system and adaptation of a levelling reverse side protection, the partial removal of the boiled oil coat, correction of results of earlier cementing, painting over and touching up, and the construction of an additional frame structure for the positioning of the panel painting and reverse side protection in the decorative frame.
In the accompanying theoretical part information on historical and present-day conservational operations
to parquetted panel paintings is given.
