Academic thesis

Nadine Huth: Problems of reintegration and presentation of fragmented altarpieces, by example of the Severin altarpiece Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The practical part of this diploma involves the accomplishment and documentation of the conservation
and restoration of the fragmented altarpiece of Severin, property of the States Museum Schwerin. Parts of wood, especially the frame of the shrine, are missing. The whole original polychromy is lost or overpainted. The damage can be ascribed to a casein varnish as well as a wax impregnation that took place during the middle of the 20th century.
The theoretical part of the thesis considers the question of reintegration and presentation of fragmented altarpieces by example of the Severin altarpiece.
