Overview:  
Abstract: The thesis deals with the conservation of a Burmese lacquerware collection of the Ethnologisches Museum in Berlin. The major part of the collection is threatened by loss of substance. Therefor a conservation plan is developed.
For that purpose different scientific analysis methods are carried out and information concerning the manufacturing of the lacquerware and its specific degradation as well as the chemical and physical characteristics are compiled.
Through tests on different samples an appropriate conservation method is developed and carried out considering the special requirements of Burmese lacquerware. Finally the possibilities of preventive conservation are described emphasizing its' importance for the preservation of the collection.
